nail polish problem

{Nice is Nice, Ballet Slippers, Lapiz of Luxury, Fishnet Stockings, unknown}

I swear CVS is some kind of black hole. Everytime I go in there, I have to buy something. Recently {especially with the addition of the Essie display}, it has been nail polish. Sally Hansen, OPI, and Essie are my go-to brands for nail polish that doesnt piss me off  – aka it has great staying power and doesnt streak with application. I have a bunch of others, but these are my go-to colors for the summer. I like bright, cheerful tones all year long, but they really enhance my tan this time of year.

I have always had an affinity for makeup. One spring, I spent hours upon hours on sephora everyday after school. Even though I appreciated the art of makeup, it never became an integral part of my life. That is, until this past year. I started channeling my inner big girl and wore makeup daily.

Before, I barely wore makeup when I went out. Now, {I place blame on Bobbi Brown} I feel naked without it. Yes my friends, I am one of those girls. This summer, I have decided to revert back to my “concealer…maybe mascara” mentality, and see where that takes me. Foundation, Blush, Eyeliner.. Goodbye.  I was partially inspired by this makeunder, and partially because my skin has been experiencing the worse breakouts I’ve ever had in my life.

It’s nearing the end of week 1 of this experiement, and in combination with this and this, I think my skin is finally starting to like me again.

Summer Essential: Crossbody Bags

Since they’ve been becoming trendy these past few seasons, we’ve all heard a lot about the crossbody bag. There are so many variations of the bag, so there is literally the perfect crossbody for everyone. Due to my obsession with handbags, and my knack for getting annoyed at carrying things, I have a few of these wardrobe staples:

{1} My very first crossbody purchase: The Michael Michael Kors Charleton Crossbody in black. No, that was not a typo, this bag is under the lower end Michael Kors line. However, the leather on this bag is amazing, and while it looks small, holds everything I need (when consolidated). {2} Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Clutch (MAC) in Metallic Anthracite. I got this bag at the RM Sample Sale in NYC this past spring, and I have to say, it’s amazing. The biggest crossbody of my collection, it fits everything I would normally put in a day bag. The chain and metallic nature of this bag make it easy to transition to night time. {3} Red Quited Clutch: This bag is probably the dressiest of my bunch. It’s red quilted leather and chain strap remind me closely of Chanel.

The Summer Bag

Around campus, all I do is either lug around my schoolbag, or a wristlet with the bare essentials. With summer comes my opportunity to bring out my handbags! For those who know me, bags are a big deal. Some of my closest friends still just carry around wristlets, whereas I always have a bag on me. Always.

Last summer, I made the big plunge and bought myself a designer handbag: the Louis Vuitton Speedy 25 in Damier Azur. It took a little saving up, but the bag is so worth it. The neutral colors make it versatile while the material makes it durable. Perfection.

fuschia lips

One of the biggest beauty trends this year has got to be the statement lip. it started out as red in the fall/winter, but now that it’s summer, more and more people are embracing the bright pink variety. I recently purchased Revlon’s Colorbust Lipstick in Fuschia, and it’s becoming one of my favorite things to put on in the morning. You can’t really tell how vibrant it is compared to my skin tone in this picture, but I promise you, it screams “PINK.”

Pinkberry-style

I have awesome friends. It’s probably because we live in the suburbs with nothing better to do, but cooking/baking/preparing food has just become a staple in what we do when my friends and I hang out. Before we made the lovely Buckeyes, my friend and I snacked on homemade frozen yogurt, pinkberry-style.
With her new ice cream machine, she mixed Chobani greek yogurt with some sugar, and voila, bliss. Add some diced kiwi and chocolate pieces and we had a healthy, cheap, alternative to Pinkberry, Berryline, or anything of the sort.

Taking a Breather

Maybe it’s my school, my oh-so-business-focused small college, but in preparation for this summer, I kind of had a heart attack. Everyone was looking for an internship, and the only stories that stuck in my head were the successes: internship with Citibank, internship with marketing firm, interning with such-and-such-major-company.

All of this commotion and happiness surrounding the acquisition of an internship really started to freak me out, because I didn’t end up getting one. didn’t even get responses for my applications. Damn you companies. Even though a lot of my friends are just doing summer jobs too, I still freaked out over not having that “perfect internship that will boost my resume up.” After this post, I feel a whole lot better. Even though I don’t know Carly, it’s nice to see another business student decide to take the traditional path, and focus on enjoying life, and figuring out what she wants to do before she graduates.

Now that I can stop hyperventilating, I have realized my summer plans are actually okay. I actually ended up getting an internship, part-time at this sick start-up magazine, Chop Chop, and part-time working at this office at school. I’m learning a lot, and I have free time to enjoy summer, so it’s all going to oookay.

Buckeyes

A great way my friends and I spend time together is through baking, cooking, or anything of the sort. This particular time, my friend and I decided to do an “assembly” food activity: Buckeyes. This recipe only called for mixing, melting and assembling, an easy fix for those of us itching to make something. While they did not turn out the prettiest, these buckeyes packed more flavor into little bite-sized pieces than a Reese’s.
